SoleMates x runDisney 2026 WDW Marathon Race Weekend
The energy at the 2026 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend (January 7–11, 2026) has been nothing short of legendary! From the early-morning sci-fi 5K with Pluto to the ultimate fantasy-filled 26.2-mile marathon led by Mickey and Minnie, the "Storybook" theme brought a magical page-turner to life for every runner.
But the true magic wasn't just found in the medals or the character meets—it was in the incredible hearts of the Girls on the Run (GOTR) SoleMates who converged on Orlando from across the USA.
Running for a Greater Purpose
SoleMates are the charity athletes of Girls on the Run, a community of passionate individuals who turn their physical challenges into fundraising power. This year, these athletes dedicated their Disney miles to a vital mission: increasing access to the GOTR program for every girl who wants to participate.
The impact of their fundraising is tangible:
- $165–$170 provides a full scholarship for one girl for a GOTR season.
- $65 provides a participant with a new pair of running shoes.
- $2,500 funds full scholarships for an entire team!
Why It Matters
Research shows that a girl's self-confidence and physical activity levels often begin to decline at age nine. Girls on the Run works to reverse this trend by teaching joy, health, and confidence through a fun, experience-based curriculum. By lacing up for runDisney, our SoleMates ensure that financial barriers never stand in the way of a girl discovering her inner strength.
To all the 2026 SoleMates: your miles have paved the way for the next generation of confident, healthy leaders. Thank you for showing us that when we run together, every mile truly is magic!
Feeling inspired? You can still support the mission! Visit the Girls on the Run SoleMates page to learn how you can fundraise or donate to help more girls cross their own finish.
